Scalp sensitivity, many have it and no one wants it.

Scalp sensitivity, many have it and no one wants it.

When we talk about scalp sensitivity, we’re not talking about your scalp getting upset over a bad hair day, we’re talking about that itchy and inflamed feeling that makes you feel like you’ve got angry little people running around on your head. We’ve all been there.

Having a sensitive scalp is really common, as it can be triggered by a variety of factors and can flare up over seasonal changes or even hormonal ones. For most people, scalp sensitivities can clear up on their own, but for others, it can frustrating and ongoing.  As winter is finally here in Australia, the cooler and drier weather may lead to changes in your skin across your entire body. So now is a great time to get started on improving your scalp health.

There are several factors that may lead to scalp sensitives, these include:

  • Dermatitis
  • Psoriasis
  • Dandruff
  • Allergies
  • Hormones
  • Some cosmetics
  • Pollution
  • Water
  • Certain laundry detergents
  • Certain hair products including dyes and relaxers
  • Sunburn
  • Heat
  • Cold
  • Wind
  • Head lice
  • Insect bites
The good news is that there are many things that you can do to increase ⬆️ the overall health of your scalp. The first thing we suggest is looking directly at your hair products and rule out whether or not you might be experiencing a reaction to one of the ingredients. We know that traditional shampoos contain a lot of nasties that can irritate your scalp. We’ve written more about what to look for here. Is your shampoo doing more harm than good?
We also know that having a sensitive scalp is one of the main reasons why you might look for a healthier alternative to your current shampoo and conditioner, as no one wants to spend the day itching and scratching. So when we designed our solid haircare bars we wanted something better than traditionally available. We wanted to avoid the nasties like sulphates or parabens and instead focus on the natural oils like coconut, olive and castor to gently clean and nourish your hair and scalp.
Without the harsh stripping ingredients, Solibars work by relying on your natural sebum production to regulate in order to clean your hair. It is also the reason why people need time to transition to a new healthier way of cleaning. We’ve written more about it here: Are you feeling stranded by overproduction or underproduction of sebum?
Without the nasties, all of our Solibars are great for sensitive scalps. However, we do know that some people can be a little more sensitive than others so we made our Calma Chameleon Solibar just in case.
Whichever reason brings you to make the switch to healthy haircare, we can promise you won’t regret it. Be sure to check out some of our Facebook reviews
